MDC Alliance Walk out-Who is the Winner ? By Hosia Mviringi. 19 September 2018 On 18 September 2018 as is the norm the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde ED Mnangagwa presided over the official opening of the inaugural Parlimentary Session of the second Republic. The first such without the imposing figure of the former leader Robert Mugabe. What a momentous occassion it was. But it was not without drama. As expected and as has become the norm for the MDC opposition lawmakers, in their usual childish manner, trooped out of the house as the President was delivering His opening remarks. This is the occassion when the Agenda for the whole Parliamentary session is spelt out.Call me a lawmaker if I miss such an event ? What a crude joke ! The oppositon Lawmakers did not miss a chance to pluck a leaf from Tsvangirai's playbook who had become known as Mr Boycott. On 30 July Zimbabwean voted for the government of their choice which was however contested by the MDC at ConCourt.A drama insued in Court which however culminated in a devastating loss to the MDC Alliance which came with hefty penalties. Now that elections are over we all thought that as Zimbabweans we would Unite and forge ahead as a family. But our compatriots in the opposition movement had other thoughts. They made a choice to recognise President Mnangagwa for a very short time just so that they get sworn in to secure their jobs.Thereafter on the opening of the same Parliament which they pledged to respect they walk out on the same President who annointed them to seeve in the House of Assembly. Parliament being one of the three pillars of government falls under the oversight of the Head of State and Government Cde ED Mnangagwa. Now taking oath to serve in Parliament is tantamount to taking a vow of allegiance to serve under him.Now what kind of self contradiction is that ? Or can we call it intoxicating cloud of confusion ? How can one choose when and when not to see illegitimacy if it exists at all ? MDC Alliance lawmakers' idiotic double standards were in full display for all to see. Now whose interests are these 'lawmakers' serving ? First of all we notice that these cowards at first were driven by insecurity and they desperately needed a job.So you understand why they recognised and agreed to work under President Mnangagwa. They couldnt resist parliamentary 4×4s and some generous allowances which allow them to stay in five star hotels with their partners of opposite sex , all paid for at government's account. On the day in question estimates put the bill at $200 000 of tax payer's money which went to waste as they played hide and seek games. Now imagine this being the Agenda setting part of the Parliamentary season, what will these legislators be debating for the whole Parliamentary session ? And still they have the sanity and audacity to purporte to represent the people. My foot ! Such behaviour is tantamount to dereliction of duty and should be punishable. It will be my strong advice that the current Parliamentary Rules and Orders Committee put forward for adoption some strict penalties for such deplorable behaviour which puts the August house into disrepute. Now this being the official opening of Parliament after a grueling and accrimonious election season we expected that this would be the most opportune moment to reach out and build alliances for such times when you may need a vote to support your motion.Instead of building bridges they are busy burning them. What a disgraceful outfit ! So whose interests do these people represent ? It could just be that these people called MPs are a bunch of cowards who can not stomach the courage to tell their leader Chamisa that its indeed him alone who lost elections, thus they just pull an occassional stunt to massage his ego. Or they are indeed indebted to their foreign funders who are desperate for action. And they are just acting and they are just grandstanding. But One thing for sure is that this Walk-Out has exposed them big time. The world now know them for their gross immaturity and lack of purpose. They have killed all the optimism that the generality of their supporters had in them as far as delivery is concerned in this session. But with their numbers too insignificant to make or effect changes to any laws do they trust their strength to go it alone this time around without any alliances ?Or its another wasted term in Parliament for the electorate ? Only time will tell. Icho ! Ngachirire !
